Why does plaster generate heat as it sets?

14 May,2026

The setting of plaster is an exothermic chemical reaction—heat is released during the curing process. This is normal and nothing to worry about. The temperature may rise significantly during setting, and the plaster can sometimes become very hot to the touch. This heat is why “hot spots” can form if the flow of liquid plaster concentrates in one area during pouring.
